Meh, just as long as Mike Shanahan stays I'm good. It was looking like he'd have full-reign over the team but the way things have been handled it doesn't look that way at all.
I was against getting McNabb all along. It had nothing to do with my personal feeling about him (ok, maybe a little) but he simply isn't a quality quarterback anymore. Favre playing into his forties is the exception, not the rule, and it makes plausible sense that after all of the beatings McNabb had endured during his career that he simply isn't good enough anymore. I mean, what was that talk about him not being conditioned well enough to run the two minute drill against Detroit? Was that real?
Anyway, Shanahan needs to stay. He needed to stay in Denver two years ago, but after this waste of a season he really, really needs to stay.
Part of me feels like they're just tanking the rest of the season.

Meh, just as long as Mike Shanahan stays I'm good. It was looking like he'd have full-reign over the team but the way things have been handled it doesn't look that way at all. Really? The way I see it, he clearly has full reign. If he didn't, for one, he wouldn't be allowed to de-activate Snyder's $100M investment. And I don't think benching McNabb would have ever been ok'ed if he didn't have full reign. There's a lot wrong in Washington from the owner down, but the way I see it Shanahan is a part of the problem. McNabb isn't what he used to be, but McNabb isn't wrong for being upset for the way he has been treated. Shanahan has lied, repeatedly, to his players. IMO for all his supposed "great" coaching and team building talents, he really has turned this team into somewhat of a circus along with his son. I wouldn't be shocked if he was fired this offseason. I don't think McNabb is more than a mediocre QB at this point in his career, but even a horrible QB is better than Rex freakin' Grossman. If you ask me, the Shanahan's were on an ego-trip in Detroit, and are now. There are 8 teams with worse records than the Redskins, and 4 others they are tied with. A top pick this year is pretty much out of the question already.

On behalf of Philadelphians, but not neccessarily Eagles fans (I try not to associate myself with them), WE TOLD YOU SO.
For the final four or so years the Eagles had McNabb he was god-awful, but nobody else wanted to believe us. His stat line only appeared respectable because he would make that deep pass happen twice a game that would keep the birds in the game and rack up the passing yards. The rest of the contests, I was able to laugh at his under-throws followed by his signature chuckle at how bad he had become. At some point, it became painful for even me to watch, as it just wasn't quality football (which we seem to be getting even less of these days from around the league).
Now that he had his time in the national spotlight, I feel like everyone has seen that he's not the superstar everyone thought we were kicking out of here. He was just an overrated quarterback who refused to use his running talent and had Brian Westbrook to make him look good.

Ugh, is it wrong for me to say I still believe Jason Campbell is better? Was I crazy to think that before the season?
Was it Shanahan's idea to bring McNabb in? I was under the impression it wasn't, which is why I questioned his control of the organization. Clearly Haynesworth was mishandled, but it wasn't his problem to begin with. It has been a mess, but I don't want what Denver has: wasted time. It's only been one season but come on, if you're going to go with a guy you need to give him a few years.
I agree that McNabb should be the starter. Unless they think Grossman can handle it, you might as well stick with the guy who could be your starter next year. Can Rex? uhh...

Jason Campbell is too inconsistent. When he's hot, he looks real good. But when he's not, it's the exact opposite. And it changes game to game as Oakland has seen this year.
I don't think it was Shanny's idea to bring in McNabb, but he didn't try and stop the deal either. It's definitely his call to bench that investment on the bench for Rex Grossman.
Rex could not be a further thing from a QB of the future. He's a has been who was never good in the NFL.
John Beck might have a chance, but he's already been cut twice in his short NFL career.

If only they didn't sign that extension so there was no opportunity to get any trade value for him, Shanahan could just admit the reason he benched McNabb is because he already decided there was no chance he would bring McNabb back and simply wants to see if Grossman could be an answer.

I think it's a bit irresponsible to conclude that from the comments.
This is just bad journalism. What kind of question is this? Is this the question he even asked him? Is the freaking answer Allen supposedly gave even in response to this question?
That article doesn't even mention McNabb until the end, which the author may or may not have just thrown his name in there. It doesn't even belong.
And this is the author's, Jason Reid's, latest tweet:
Now I'm really confused. I hate journalists.

The bottom line: the 'skins are going to let McNabb and Haynesworth twist in the wind for awhile. I have no idea why McNabb signed that contract, as it will probably kill his chances to start in 2011.
